One of the things I love about open water swimming is the way each day is completely different. After the foggy, calm bay of the last couple of days, it was a surprise to arrive at the bulb today to see the city and Golden Gate Bridge shining brightly in the distance, brilliant and clear. The water was deep blue/grey rather than the green of yesterday and it had much more energy.

Arwen met me at the bulb, which was a lovely surprise. I was coming straight from Lift and Sprint, which meant I’d miss the 8 am crew and I was psyching myself up for a solo swim, but I didn’t really want to go alone. So it felt like a celebration to see her there and our swim was joyful and invigorating.
