Joyful Lunchtime Swim (Day 123)

I’ve spent the day highly distracted by the Supreme Court leak that indicates Roe vs. Wade will be overturned. It’s triggered my rage and sadness, my feelings of helplessness and overwhelm at the state of the world and I’ve spent the whole day writing and thinking about it, leaving me not much left for my blog post.

But, fortunately, in the midst of the anger and angst, I had a glorious swim. Sheila, Arwen, Angie, and I met at lunchtime at the Berkeley Marina. The sun was shining and a light breeze blew pleasantly all around us. It took a little while to get in, but when we did the water was wonderful; refreshing, but warm. Like the last time Arwen and I swam at the marina, there were layers of varying temperatures; currents of warm, and pockets of cold.

We had the bay, usually dotted with sailboats and windsurfers, to ourselves. It was the first time the four of us have swum all together since March 29 and it felt like a celebration. Just what I needed!
