I signed up for a 3K in the Ottawa River this summer in order to keep my swims interesting. It seemed far off when I signed up for it, but now it’s less than a week away. I’m not exactly nervous—I know I can do 3K, at least theoretically—but now that it’s getting close I thought I should actually swim 3K without stopping just to be sure.

So, that’s what I did this morning. When I swam to the club on Monday I noted when I’d hit the mile mark and today I swam there and back again, hugging the shore. It felt good, though definitely tiring to swim that far without stopping and I was very slow. But not so slow as to be pulled out of the water for not finishing on time at the event Saturday; I was happy about that.

Good luck with your challenging river swim. Do you have a current to aid or alternatively hinder you in your river swim? In either event, enjoy!

Thanks! I was wondering the same thing and am assuming the current will be in our favor, but we’ll see! Fingers crossed.
